Animal Models:
Biotrofix offers special expertise in rodent models of neurological and vascular diseases, including:
| • |
Stroke |
| |
- Focal ischemia models for both acute stroke (neuroprotection) and stroke recovery-promoting treatments (including permanent and temporary suture occlusion mode is in rats and mice, and Chen and Tamura models in rats). |
| |
- Global ischemia models for hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (including gerbil model of forebrain ischemia and 4-VO models in rats). |
| |
- Global ischemia models for hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (including gerbil model of forebrain ischemia and 4-VO models in rats). |
| • |
Alzheimer Disease: Transgenic mouse models |
| • |
ALS: Transgenic mouse models. |
| • |
Muscular dystrophy: Transgenic mouse models. |
| • |
Other neurological and vascular diseases: |
Traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, Parkinson's Disease, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and others.
Drug Administration:
Delivery of small molecules, proteins, cells, or appropriate devices in the models above via intracerebral, intrathecal, systemic, oral, or local administration, either by injection or continuous infusion. Single, multiple, or continuous dosing.
Behavioral Assessment:
Biotrofix investigators are highly-experienced in behavioral assessment in rodent models of neurological and vascular diseases. These include assessment of:
| • |
Sensorimotor Function: limb placing tests, tail swing test, neurological severity scale, beam balance, spontaneous limb use, grid walking, staircase, sticky tape, paw reaching, rotorod, and rotating beam tests. |
| • |
Memory: computer-analyzed Morris water maze test. |
| • |
Other model-specific behavioral tests are also available. |
 |
 |
Tissue Sampling and Histology:
| • |
Blood, urine, and CSF sampling for PK and PD studies. |
| • |
Brain and other organ harvesting, fixation, sectioning, and routine histological processing. |
| • |
Infarct volume analysis for stroke studies. |
| • |
Immunocytochemistry studies are done through special
arrangement. |
